Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy of most West African countries like Nigeria. However, the pace of its development is not as expected. The major aim of the project is to determine the importance of agriculture to the economy, poverty reduction and food security in Nigeria. Prospects and challenges of agricultural development in the country will be investigated. Past and present government policies towards the development of agriculture and poverty reduction in the country will be analysed. At the end of the project, policy recommendation will be made to help the government and other stakeholders in ensuring a sustainable agricultural development in Nigeria.
