Target Group: Students of Universities for Geography, Environmental Science, GIS, Sustainable Development, Cultural Heritage and Geography related fields.

Lectures: the lectures will be held
at the Department of Geography,
Faculty of History and Philology (FHF),
University of Tirana (Albania)
Field trips: the field trips will be done
in Tirana half-day (by bike) and Vlora
full-day (by bus)

at the rooms of the Campus of the University of Tirana, supported by CEEPUS Albania
Pocket money: The participants will get
a small pocket-money for 1 week (20 euros)

GOALS OF THE SUMMER SCHOOL
DRAFT PROGRAM
Day 1: Orientation, introduction to the course structure, and goals.
Introduction to Sustainable Development and Cultural Routes as local development instruments (CEEPUS professors)
Introduction to the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe; history and case studies.
Instruments of local development (CEEPUS professors)
Day 2: Cases of using the territorial instruments (itineraries, thematic parks, etc) for local development (CEEPUS professors)
Geographic Instruments in Sustainability (CEEPUS professors)
Methodologies of studies (CEEPUS professors)
Half-day Field visit to the city of Tirana: exploring the cultural routes.
Day 3: Workshops on using geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing for local development.
Seminar on data collection and analysis with guest speakers from local sustainable projects (CEEPUS professors)
Cases from CEEPUS countries
Day 4: Case Studies and Field Work to Vlora
Group work analysing different Cultural Routes across various countries.
Interactive session with local stakeholders and community leaders.
Day 5: Project Development and Presentation (CEEPUS professors)
Students design their own sustainable development project based on the principles learned and apply them to a Cultural Route of their choice.
Preparation of two draft-projects: “draft folder of application” for membership of one Albanian
Municipality to one of the Cultural Routes of Council of Europe, and “development plan” for one
Municipality based on the Cultural Routes of CE
Presentation of projects to a panel of experts and peer review.
Assessment
Continuous assessment through quizzes
and small projects.
Final project presentation.
Resources Needed
Access to GIS software and hardware.
Collaboration with local organizations and communities involved in Cultural Routes.
Expert lectures and guidance from professors specializing in geography, sustainability,
and cultural studies.
Certification
Participants will receive a certificate upon completion, accredited by the hosting university.
This plan provides a comprehensive educational experience that combines theory with practical,
real-world application, ideal for students looking to make
a tangible impact in the field of sustainable development through geographical insights.
