Admission procedure
The admission procedure to our faculty involves several steps and sequences. To give you an idea of what to expect and what deadlines to remember, here is an overview:
Choose the type of study you will apply for:
Bachelor studies follow high school studies and normally last three years.
Graduates of bachelor’s degree programmes are awarded the bachelor’s degree, abbreviated as Bc.
At the start, you need to decide which course of study is right for you.
We offer the bachelor’s degree in Regionální rozvoj and Mezinárodní teritoriální studia. Read more about them in the links..
If you can’t decide, you can apply for more than one programme. You will take one entrance exam; you just have to pay a fee for each one. However, you can postpone the final decision until later.
The first thing you need to do is submit an application. Complete the application form and pay the application fee of 600 CZK.
You must do all this by 30 April 2023.
The application form is to be submitted online only.
You can pay the application fee of CZK 600 directly via the University Information System (UIS) where you filled in the application form.
Or by bank transfer to account 35-4335800227/0100.
In this case, be sure to indicate the variable symbol, which is also the application number and begins with 301xxxxxx. You can find it on the application form in the UIS.
Our entrance exam is called Test studijních předpokladů (TSP). It is a set of 25 questions from social sciences and English.
- Maximum score: 100
- It is taken online between May 15 and 19, 2023.
- Click HERE to download the sample test and take a mock exam. At the end of the test you will find the correct answers so that you can evaluate the test.
We will be happy to accept your passing scores on the SCIO test Obecných studijních předpokladů (OSP), respectively Všeobecných študijných předpokladů (VŠP).
The condition is that you must score in the 40th percentile or above.
We will accept your test results from the following dates: 10 December 2022, 4 February 2023, 4 March 2023, 2 April 2023.
What are the benefits?
- You can take more than one test and we will only accept the best result.
- We get the SCIO test results directly from SCIO, so you don’t have to bother proving them.
- You can use the results for more than one school, as long as they also accept them.
What do you have to do?
Your only obligation here is to complete the Žádosti o osvobození od přijímací zkoušky and send it or deliver it in person to the Study Department no later than 30 April 2023.
We hold the entrance exams at the end of May.
Afterwards, a decision is made on which applicants are admitted and which are not. You can see the result of the admissions procedure in the University Information System, i.e. where you submitted your application. We’ll also send you the result by post, so you don’t have to worry about being left in the dark.
If you are among those admitted, you will still need to provide a certified or authenticated copy of your high school graduation certificate or nostrification clause.
Send them either by mail or deliver them in person to the Study Department. You must submit your diploma by 23 June 2023.

The average success rate in the admission procedure is about 60%.
- For the academic year 2022/2023, we plan to admit the following numbers of students:
Regionální rozvoj – Bachelor’s programme: 160 students.
Mezinárodní teritoriální studia – Bachelor’s programme: 160 students - Admission requirements
Master studies follow bachelor studies and normally last two years.
At the start, you need to decide which course of study is right for you.
We offer follow-up master degree programmes in Regionální rozvoj and Mezinárodní teritoriální studia. Read more about them in the links.
If you can’t decide, you can apply for more than one programme. However, you will take two entrance exams – one for each course of study. You’ll also have to pay a fee for each one. You can postpone the final decision until later, though.

Entrance exam
The entrance exam for the programme Regionální rozvoj focuses on the fields of regional economics and politics, sociology and environmental protection. You can download sample tests to get an idea of the content.
The entrance exam for the programme Mezinárodní teritoriální studia ocuses on the areas of regional development (including natural resource use) and issues of the developing world. Sample tests can be downloaded here.
The entrance exams take place between 15 and 19 May 2023 – we will send you a letter well in advance with the exact date you should attend.
If your weighted average during your bachelor studies was up to and including 2.0 (excluding your final semester), you do not have to take the entrance exam.
In this case, you just need to submit the Žádost o osvobození od přijímacího řízení to our Study Department by 30 April 2023 at the latest.
Whether you take the entrance exam or are exempted from it based on your academic performance, we’ll inform you about the result. You can also check the result of the admission process in the University Information System where you submitted your application.
If you are among those admitted, you still need to provide a certified or authenticated copy of your bachelor’s diploma or nostrification clause. Put them in the mailbox in front of the Study Department or send them by mail by 23 June 2023.

If you don’t have these documents by the deadline, you may apply for an extension until 23 June 2023.
You don’t have to submit your Bachelor’s diploma if you completed the bachelor degree course at FRDIS.

Mezinárodní teritoriální studia – follow-up master programme: 60 students
This is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in English. In addition to lectures and practicals delivered in English, you will be in constant contact with your foreign classmates.
If you’re thinking about studying abroad, this is the perfect start!
We offer the International Area Studies conducted in English at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s level.
These are paid courses where the study environment is much more intimate.
The application form is to be completed online and you can apply all year round.
You can start your studies every year in February or September.
If you need a visa to stay, expect it to take some time to obtain. So apply as soon as possible.
The admission fee is not charged for study programmes conducted in English.
The International Area Studies programme is fee-based.
The tuition fee is set at CZK 65,000 per academic year.
The entrance exam focuses on the student’s general abilities and skills.
It consists of three parts:
- an English language test
- an aptitude test (a sample test in English can be found here)
- motivation letter
We will inform you about the result of the entrance exam within 14 days.
Bachelor studies
- Applicants who have completed secondary school outside the Czech Republic must prove their knowledge by one of the following options:
– Nostrification issued by a regional authority in the Czech Republic;
– a European Baccalaureate;
– a matriculation certificate from a country with an international agreement
– Internal nostrification of a secondary school certificate

Master’s studies
- Applicants who graduated from a university outside the Czech Republic must prove their knowledge by one of the following options:
– Nostrification of the bachelor’s diploma;
– Internal nostrification of the bachelor’s diploma

For the 2022/2023 academic year and study programmes Regionální rozvoj and Mezinárodní teritoriální studia, we accept applications until April 30, 2023.
For the programme International Territorial studies apply year round. This study programme starts every year in February and September.
Applicants from countries with visa requirements have to allow for a longer process, so you can apply at any time of the year to allow enough time for the paperwork. They will then start their studies depending on when all the formalities have been completed (always in September for the Bachelor’s degree, or in September or February for the Master’s degree).
An administrative fee of CZK 600 is payable for each application submitted for the Czech study programme. You can make a direct payment via the University Information System (UIS) where you filled in the application form.
Or you may make a bank transfer to account 35-4335800227/0100.
In this case, be sure to indicate the variable symbol, which is also the application number and begins with 301xxxxxx. You can find it on the application form in the UIS.
You’ll receive an invitation specifying the exact exam date well in advance.
If can’t take the exam for a serious reason (illness, coincidence with the graduation exam), you may request an alternative date.
Each applicant must pass our Test studijním předpokladů (TSP); we also accept SCIO tests Obecné studijní předpoklady (OSP) at or above the 40th percentile.
If you are taking the SCIO tests, you must apply for a Žádost o osvobození od přijímací zkoušky and send or hand deliver it to the Study Department no later than 30 April 2023.
You must either pass the entrance exam or apply to be exempted from it if your weighted average during your bachelor studies was up to and including 2.0 (excluding your final semester).
In this case, you just need to submit an Application for Exemption from the Admission Procedure tou our Study Department no later than 30 April 2023.
Unfortunately, our faculty offers only full-time study programmes.
If the admission procedure is successful, you submit your high school graduation certificate and enrol at the school.
Enrolment takes place in July 2023. We will inform you of the exact date.
MENDELU issues an ISIC card to full-time students. It is also used as a MENDELU student ID card and allows you to prove your student status worldwide.
The card is used, among other things, in:
- the canteen – you will top up the card and the price of food you buy will be deducted from it
- libraries
- the campus to enter limited access area
- the residence halls (to enter)
- the arboretum (to enter)
Note: If you have another ISIC card from a different university, it is not valid at MENDELU. You can’t use it as your ID because it doesn’t show your student number. You won’t be able to use it for the above mentioned cases.
The start dates of the semesters are not as fixed as at high schools.
Therefore, you need to follow the academic year timetable, where you need to click on a specific semester (ZS = winter semester, starts in September; SS = summer semester, starts in February).
In the first semester, the timetable is set by the faculty. Within the study group to which you’re assigned, the timetable is given and you meet the same classmates all the time.
From the second semester onwards, you set your own timetable according to your needs and time availability. The selection is made on the basis of the available times of lectures and practicals.
Yes, we want our students not only to study theory, but to gain practical knowledge and skills. All our students must therefore complete a work placement as part of their studies.
In Bachelor programmes, the duration is 4 weeks.
In the follow-up Master programmes, the internship is longer (5 weeks).
As the name of the faculty suggests, we place great emphasis on knowledge of foreign languages.
In the International Area Studies programme, some courses are taught in English.
You must take two consecutive semesters of a foreign language course during your bachelor studies. You can choose from the following language courses at different levels of proficiency: English, German, French and Spanish.
Not only is it possible, but we actively encourage students to go abroad.
It is possible to travel as part of study stays, foreign internships or bilateral agreements (Erasmus+, CEEPUS, etc.). We also have a number of our own foreign projects that you can actively participate in (e.g. Peru, Philippines, South Africa…) and do your first scientific research there, on which you can perhaps base your bachelor’s or master’s thesis.
Our graduates say that the international placements greatly enriched their lives in every possible way and that they draw on this experience for many years.
Sport is an integral part of the lifestyle for many students. That’s why we have the MENDELU Sports Activities Centre, which offers a range of opportunities to take an active break from studying.
And if you want to combine top-level sport and studying at the same time, we have a Talented Athlete Support Programme, which ensures individual approach.
Yes, there has been an Akademická unie student society at FRDIS for several years.
Here you will not only find support and advice from senior students, the Union also organizes social events such as the Faculty Ball, student competitions and quizzes, events for future freshmen, etc.
If you get actively involved in the organisation and running of the Union, you’ll also find a source of valuable experience that will come in handy in the future.
