What has to be fulfilled in order to be admitted to the State Examination?

  1. You have to successfully complete the Bachelor Seminar course at least the penultimate semester. To successfully complete the course, you must meet the attendance requirements, find a thesis supervisor, and then find and co-approve a bachelor thesis topic. The bachelor thesis assignment must be entered in UIS and credit must be awarded by the bachelor thesis supervisor.
  2. In your final semester you must register for the Bachelor’s Thesis and the State Bachelor’s Examination. To be admitted to the State Examination, you have to complete your study plan, which means:
    • obtain a minimum of 180 credits,
    • successfully complete the required courses,
    • obtain the required number of credits in the required elective courses,
    • and successfully complete a bachelor’s internship. More information about the professional bachelor internship can be found here.

Your study plan must be completed before a deadline specified in the faculty timetable.

  • Note: If the sentence “The plan has not yet been met, but only the state exam courses are missing” appears in UIS under Plan Check, everything is in order and the student can be admitted to the state exam.
  1. In the semester in which you are enrolled in a State Examination course, you have to register for the State Examination in UIS. In the summer semester, this option will appear in April, and in the winter semester in November.

What is the final state exam procedure?

The defence and the state bachelor’s exam are held on the same day.

The period in which the state final examinations will be held is indicated in the schedule for the particular semester in the academic year. Students will be informed about the exact date and venue one week prior to the exam at UIS. The members of the committee will also be announced in the UIS three days before the exam.

A formal dress code is expected. Therefore, men should come in a men’s suit including a long-sleeved shirt, belt and dress shoes. For women, it means a dress, blouse, skirt, jacket, formal pants or suit.

On any given day, students will report to the classroom in the morning before the start time. Usually, the classroom is already open about a quarter of an hour before the start time, and together with the secretary of the committee, students will upload the presentation to the computer for the defence. Students do not participate in refreshments for the committee, refreshments are provided by the faculty.

The State Bachelor Examination begins with the official opening when students enter the classroom in the order given. The secretary of the committee will introduce the committee to the students and the students to the committee. By arrangement, the students leave the classroom or the first of the group stays and begins the defence of their bachelor’s thesis.

The student always starts with the defence of his/her bachelor thesis. The structure and appearance of the presentation is not set, each thesis is unique, deals with a different topic and has a different methodology, therefore the structure cannot be uniformly determined. You can use this presentation template. However, the aim and sub-objectives of the thesis, methodology, results and conclusion along with any recommendations should not be omitted when presenting the bachelor/diploma thesis. The brief could also include what the students have pursued in their literature search. The structure and length of the presentation should be discussed with the supervisor. At the end of the presentation, the chair of the committee will normally read out the review of the supervisor and the opponent, together with their questions. The student is invited to answer all the questions or only selected ones. During the debate, the members of the committee also ask questions. After the defence of the bachelor’s/diploma thesis, the student is invited to sit down and the second part of the state bachelor’s examination begins. The defence of the bachelor’s thesis is immediately followed by an oral examination on the subject areas of the state bachelor’s examination.

Booklet with the examination questions is here

After the oral examination, a closed meeting of the examination committee takes place. After the committee decides on the result, the student is called back to the classroom and told whether he/she has passed the state bachelor examination.

The results of the sub-sections and the overall result of the State Bachelor’s examination are communicated to the students only at the end of the State Bachelor’s examination, i.e. after the last student in the group. The whole group will return to the classroom and the results will normally be announced by the chairman of the committee.

If a student fails the State Bachelor’s examination, the results are communicated to the student immediately after the examination board has deliberated and it is not normally necessary for the student to wait for the final announcement of the results.
