Student Responsibilities

  • A minimum of 15 credits is required to register for the 2nd semester.
  • To enrol in the next semester, you must earn a minimum of 40 credits for the last 2 semesters completed.
  • Once you have earned at least 150 credits at the bachelor’s level or 90 credits at the master’s level, this requirement no longer applies to you.
  • Credits earned for recognised courses on the basis of other completed coursework or a certificate are not included in the credits required for progression to subsequent semesters. Exceptions are courses recognized from a faculty-facilitated study abroad experience.
  • You need 180 credits for the Bachelor’s degree and 120 credits for the Master’s degree.
  • In order to be admitted to the state final examination, you must also fulfil the other requirements of the study plan. You can check the conditions of your study plan by logging in to the UIS in the Student Portal in the Plan Check section.

Yes, completing a professional internship is part of every study plan at our faculty. For more information on how professional practice takes place, click here.

  • You can apply through the Contact Centre at UIS for exceptional enrolment in the second semester of your studies or for exceptional enrolment in the following semester of your studies to avoid termination. Submitting an application does not automatically mean that your request for exceptional enrolment will be approved. This is truly an extraordinary request and is always considered on an individual basis. The application is meaningless if you are missing a lot of credits.
  • For example, if there are health problems during the semester that cause a lack of credits, be sure to provide medical reports.
  • You can register for each course up to two times. If you fail to successfully complete the course on the second enrolment, you may request to have the course enrolment cancelled. If your request is approved, one course registration will be cancelled. Keep in mind, however, that you must successfully complete each course once enrolled.
  • A request to cancel a course enrolment may be made no more than twice during your studies for academic reasons. This is a truly exceptional request and is always considered on an individual basis. The request is made through the Contact Centre at UIS.

Registration and Enrollment

Registration

  • During the registration period, you show your interest in studying courses through registration. Registration also serves as a “reservation” of a place in capacity-limited courses.
  • Registering for courses is non-binding, but helps us to set up schedules and capacities.
  • Course registration is especially important for required elective courses; if there is no interest, the course may not be offered in the following semester.
  • The courses Professional Bachelor internship, Professional Diploma internship, State Bachelor Examination and State Masters Examination are not subject to registration.
  • Course registration is limited by registration coupons. It does not pay to waste them.
  • At the same time, registering for courses will help you with enrollment. It will ensure a better time!

These are a pre-set number of vouchers for the entire study programme for which you can register for courses. There are 216 coupons for the Bachelor’s degree and 144 coupons for the Master’s degree.

Coupons are only deducted when you register for courses or when a course is recognized by another degree or certificate.

You can apply for an increase in registration vouchers by using the Contact Centre and completing application 033_Z: Application for increase in registration vouchers.

Enrollment

  • If you meet the conditions for enrolment for the next semester, the study department will enrol you during the enrolment period.
Yes, but only during the enrolment change period.

The difference from the enrolment period is that you are already enrolled in the next semester of study and are only making changes to your enrolled courses or your schedule. Each change must be confirmed. To confirm a change, you must scroll down the page and click on the Make Enrolment Changes box.

Enrolment time is calculated based on several criteria such as grade point average for the entire course of study, number of credits earned to date, completion of evaluations, etc. The calculation of enrolment time is always listed in the UIS.

The reasons why UIS will not allow e-enrolment are always highlighted in red and explained.

  • You have not met the requirements for enrolment in the following semester.
  • The most common reason for this problem is that you have not met the minimum number of credits to enrol in the next semester of study. In this case, promptly submit a request for emergency enrolment in the second semester without having earned 15 credits or a request for emergency enrolment in the next semester without having earned 40 credits.
  • Another common reason is that you have an incomplete double enrolled course. Immediately submit a request to drop the course from your enrolment in that course. If approved, you will be allowed to enrol.
  • You have not met the requirements for enrolling in the course (capacity, prerequisite)
  • The reason is capacity – a possible solution:
    • Submit a request to the course sponsor to increase the capacity of the course. The request can be found in UIS → Student Portal → Registration, Enrolment and post-enrolment changes in the Course Enrolment Sheet. Alternatively, you can monitor if capacity becomes available by your classmates withdrawing from the course. Wait until the end of the enrolment period at the latest.
  • Prerequisite – a possible solution:
    • Submit a request to the course supervisor for the possibility to study the course without fulfilling the prerequisite. The request can be found in UIS → Student Portal → Registration, enrolment and post-enrolment changes in the Course Enrolment Sheet.

Practice

As part of your studies at FRRMS, you are required to complete a professional internship. You can find more information at the link below.

State examination

You will be given the date at the latest one week before the state final exam. You will see the members of committee at least 3 days before the final exam. Both details will be announced  in UIS in the Student Portal in the section Application for the HSC.

The faculty provides refreshments for the committee; students are not involved in the preparation of refreshments.

A formal dress code is expected.
Men should therefore arrive in a suit, including a long-sleeved shirt, belt, and formal shoes. Sneakers or jeans are not appropriate. The color of the suit is up to you.
Women may wear a dress, blouse, skirt, blazer, formal trousers, or a suit. Jeans, T-shirts, shorts, and overly casual clothing are not suitable. The rule of thumb should be that the skirt is of sufficient length and the neckline not too deep. Hair should be neat and makeup should be natural/daytime.

The student always starts with the defence of his/her diploma thesis. The structure and appearance of the presentation is not set, each thesis is unique, deals with a different topic and has a different methodology, therefore the structure cannot be uniformly determined. You can use this presentation template. However, the aim and sub-objectives of the thesis, methodology, results and conclusion along with any recommendations should not be omitted when presenting the bachelor/diploma thesis. The brief could also include what the students have pursued in their literature search. The structure and length of the presentation should be discussed with the supervisor. At the end of the presentation, the chair of the committee will normally read out the review of the supervisor and the opponent, together with their questions. The student is invited to answer all the questions or only selected ones. During the debate, the members of the committee also ask questions.

After the defence of the diploma thesis, the student is invited to sit down and the second part of the state diploma examination begins. The defence of the diploma thesis is immediately followed by an oral examination on the subject areas of the final state examination.

Booklet with the examination questions is here

After the oral examination, a closed meeting of the examination committee takes place. After the committee decides on the result, the student is called back to the classroom and told whether he/she has passed the state bachelor/final examination.

The results of the sub-sections and the overall result of the Final State Examination are communicated to the students only at the end of the Final State Examination, i.e. after the last student in the group. The whole group will return to the classroom and the results will normally be announced by the chairman of the committee.

If a student fails the Final State Examination, the results are communicated to the student immediately after the examination board has deliberated and it is not normally necessary for the student to wait for the final announcement of the results.

Immediately following the thesis defense, a discussion related to the diploma thesis takes place. During this discussion, the examination board bases its questions on the topic of the thesis and focuses on related issues. The student is gradually asked questions from three core areas: economics, environmental studies, and political science. Each question is posed by the respective member of the examination board and is tied to the content of the diploma thesis. Students are no longer examined separately from the designated study areas.

After the defense and the discussion, a non-public deliberation of the examination board follows. Once the board reaches a decision, the student is called back into the classroom and informed whether they have passed the state examination. The remaining results are announced only at the end of the state examination, after the last member of the group has completed their defense.

The state exam can be taken only once in the regular term and once in the resit term.

Instructions for students who were not successful in their first attempt at the state exam are available for review.

Recognition of courses

  • If you have already attended courses at another university, there is an option to have your successful coursework recognised. Recognition of courses is based on a comparison of course syllabi or language certificates, etc. Courses can be recognised if it has not been more than 5 years since you completed the particular course. You can apply for recognition of courses via the Contact Centre in UIS (Student Portal – Contact Centre – 009_Z: Application for recognition of course(s)). For more information on recognition of courses, please click here.

Interruption of studies

  • Unless the reason for the interruption is a health problem, you can only interrupt your studies for a full semester. In order to interrupt your studies, you must submit an application for interruption of studies and also meet the requirement for enrolment in the next semester. The application must be submitted in paper form to the Study Department. For more information, please click here.
  • The total period of interruption of studies must not exceed half of the standard period of study. At the Bachelor’s degree level, studies may be interrupted for a maximum of 3 semesters. At the postgraduate level, studies may be interrupted for a maximum of 2 semesters
  • During the period of interruption of studies, the person does not have a status of a student. The period of interrupted study is counted as part of the maximum period of study
  • Please consult the Study Department when interrupting your studies for health reasons or in connection with pregnancy and parenthood.

Leaving studies

Unsuccessful completion of studies

  • Yes, you can. Reasons for early termination of studies by the faculty are, for example, failure to meet the requirements for enrolment in the next semester, failure to register, or exhaustion of final examination dates.
  • After the end of the enrollment period, you will be invited to comment on the documents supporting the decision to withdraw from your studies in the Document Storage, and you will have 7 days from the date of uploading to the UIS to respond.
  • If you do not respond to the invitation or do not indicate any circumstances that could stop or change the termination procedure, the Dean will issue a written termination decision which will be sent to you by registered mail and will also be uploaded to the Document Storage in UIS. Once the decision becomes final, your studies will be terminated and you will lose your student status.

Withdrawing from studies

  • If you no longer wish to continue your studies, you must provide a Declaration on dropping out of my studies. The notice must be delivered either in person, by post or by data box to the Study Department.
  • The earliest you can withdraw from your studies is the date of delivery of the notice. It is not possible to withdraw retrospectively to the chosen date.

Scholarships

  • The main scholarships you can receive are the scholarship based on your study results (the merit scholarship) and the mobility scholarship.
  • Scholarships and the conditions for awarding them are regulated by the Scholarship Regulations of Mendel University in Brno and the Dean’s Directive on the principles for awarding scholarships.
  • More information about scholarships and how to apply for a scholarship can be found here.

  • As part of the admissions process, the ISIC card can be ordered and paid for in the e-return application in UIS.
  • After enrolment, the ISIC card can be ordered for logging in to UIS in the Student Portal in the Orders section.
  • In order for the card to be produced, the ISIC card order must be paid for and you must have your photo taken at the MENDELU Audiovisual Centre. Opening hours are published here.
  • Once your ISIC card has been produced, you will receive a message on your university email that it is ready to be picked up at the Student Services.
  • To extend the validity of your ISIC card, you must pay the ISIC Card Revalidation Fee after logging in to UIS in the Student Portal under Orders.
  • Once the payment has been credited in the Study Financing.

Others

How can I get a confirmation of my studies?
  • You can get your confirmation of studies from the Study Department during office hours or by appointment.
  • Another option is an electronic confirmation of studies, which you can generate yourself in UIS. The confirmation of studies will have an electronic seal that replaces the signature and stamp. You can have such a confirmation if, after logging into UIS, you proceed to the Student Portal and then to the Print Documents section. Here you will select the type of confirmation you need. It takes a while for the confirmation to be generated. Once the confirmation is ready, you will receive an email and you will be able to download it in the Document Storage.
How are excused absences handled?
  • Excused absences can only be made for reasons of illness with a doctor’s note, or for other reasons such as representing the University.
  • Once your doctor has issued you with an excuse slip, you can report the reason for absence via the Contact Centre at UIS. You can use the 080_H: Reporting the reason for absence (excuse slip). Insert a scanned doctor’s note or medical report in the attachment.
  • In the event of prolonged illness, we recommend that you contact your course instructors to discuss options for making up class attendance that you have missed due to illness.
What is a prerequisite?
  • A prerequisite is usually a course that must be completed before enrolling in another course. For example, to enrol in World Language – English Advanced 2, you must first complete World Language – English Advanced 1.
  • A prerequisite may also be a course that must not be taken. These are courses that have a very similar syllabus or are taught in a foreign language.
What are course evaluations?
  • Evaluations serve as feedback on the courses you have studied. The opportunity to complete an evaluation opens up during the exam period.
  • Evaluations are completely anonymous and are used to improve the quality of teaching.
  • If you complete at least 75% of the evaluations, you will receive an advantage when calculating the time your enrollment opens for the semester one year later.
Where can I find the timetable and schedule for the academic year?
