The two-year project that our faculty was part of has just ended. The project “Experience design and nature conservation via VIsitor MOnitoring and MAnagement in protected areas – #VINOMA”, which was supported by the International Visegrad Fund, aimed to connect researchers and stakeholders to improve the effectiveness of nature conservation and visitor management of protected areas in the Visegrad (V4) and Western Balkan (WB) countries.

One of the outputs of the project is a new manual for effective monitoring of visitors in protected and recreational areas, which was created as a result of joint work of project partners, experts and representatives of protected areas who participated in the project workshop.
The aim of the manual is to introduce protected area managers, students and other stakeholders to various tools and methodologies useful for effective visitor monitoring and management. It also includes methodological frameworks for monitoring and management of visitors that could be practically used in different protected areas.

The manual is divided into five main chapters, which are related to the themes of the five workshops that took place within the project.

  • Visitor surveys
  • Methodologies for monitoring visitors
  • Interpreting heritage and creating experiences
  • Communication tools and approaches
  • Monitoring the impact on visitors
