Climate Adapt Forest Project Continues: Researchers Discussed Site Selection and Use of Modern Technologies

29. 3. 2025

On January 17, 2025, a meeting of the researchers involved in the Climate Adapt Forest (CAF) project, supported by the Interreg Slovakia-Czech Republic program, took place. This project focuses on the adaptation of forest ecosystems to climate change through cross-border cooperation between the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Its goal is to monitor changes in forest stands, analyze the impacts of climatic factors, and propose measures to enhance their resilience.

The main topics of the meeting included the selection of model locations, administrative matters, and the potential use of modern technologies to monitor the effects of climate change. One of the proposed model locations was Velká Javořina in the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Bílé Karpaty), selected for its unique natural characteristics and suitability for long-term environmental research. Its cross-border position also symbolizes cooperation between the two countries.

The project researchers discussed the use of modern measuring devices, including monitoring CO₂ concentrations and other environmental factors. Special attention was given to powering measurement stations in remote areas using renewable energy sources.

The meeting also addressed administrative and personnel issues related to the project’s implementation. The outcomes of the discussion will be incorporated into future plans, contributing to a deeper understanding of climate change and helping forest ecosystems better adapt to new conditions.

The CAF project continues to support sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation in the Slovak-Czech border region. It demonstrates how scientific research and modern technology can contribute to nature conservation in times of climate challenges.
