Statement on the Russian invasion of Ukraine
The management of Mendel University in Brno strongly condemns Russia’s unprecedented military aggression against a sovereign state like Ukraine. This is a serious violation of international law, which is a completely purposeful and premeditated act of war.
What Ukraine is facing today is very reminiscent of the historical experience that pre-war Czechoslovakia had at the hands of Hitler’s Germany in 1938, and it is also reminiscent of the aggression in 1968. That is why it is our duty to stand fully behind Ukraine today, especially as many Ukrainians are our neighbours and fellow citizens. Every independent state has the right to decide democratically on its future and its direction.
The management of Mendel University in Brno supports the Czech political representation in actively participating in a swift and decisive Europe-wide response to Russia’s aggressive actions. Europe must be united in its action.
MENDELU is ready to receive Ukrainian students and academics within its capabilities. The university’s management will discuss possible further assistance.

Acting Rector of MENDELU
